KCVL for Kids Work Group Minutes

CPE, Meeting Room B
May 23, 2000

Present: Susan Brown, Barbie Hardy, Diane Culbertson, Miko Pattie, Michael Dailey, Jan Ross, Blenda Fields, Becky Stephens, Melissa Gibson, and Teri Weil

The group discussed the purpose of the group and the project. They agreed that such a project was needed in Kentucky because, while there are many individuals doing such work for their libraries, there is no coordinated site that serves P-5 population of the whole state. It was decided that KCVL for Kids will be patterned after KCVL for Teachers.

Our Goal: To build a quality resource portal to support Kentucky's P-5 students

The Plan:

Technical Infrastructure
We will use the existing KCVL server. We have not decided on a platform at this time.
Organization of Resources
It was decided that the resources will be based on the 7 core content subjects established by KDE and further divided by levels (Primary=K-3 and Intermediate=4-5).
Resources
Resources shall include Kentuckiana, databases, tutorial, and external webpages.

Identification & Evaluation
Mike Dailey will use File Maker Pro to design a form (based on Barby Hardy's form) that will organize recommended websites and that can be posted in HTML format. In addition, ITLS will be recruited to serve as subject specialists to recommend websites. KCVL will provide some training on how to evaluate websites at ITL University July 19-21. II.

Assessment: We will develop an online evaluation form for students and parents to let us know how useful these resources are.
