1. Review of Submitted Websites
1.1 Weil reported on the collection of websites available in the FileMaker Pro databases. It was indicated that we are week in the areas of:
* General & Reference
* Practical Living and Vocational Skills
* Math
* Arts & Humanities
* Science
1.2 It was decided that the external website collection/submission would be a closed process. Submissions will come from committee members and the LMS/ITLs. Since the process is closed, all websites submitted are accepted and will be added to the Kids Portal.
1.3 It was further agreed that everyone would add 10 sites by the end of November.
1.4 After much discussion, the decision was made that the Kids Portal will not be an extension of the Teachers Portal. The Kids Portal will be designed to provide K-5 children with a safe environment with which to surf the web. The websites submitted should be fun and educational.
2. Tutorial
2.1 The devised an outline to send to Melissa Gibson to use in creating the
tutorial. The draft outline was sent out October 25th to the work group. Replies
are due by November 3rd to Teri Weil at KYVL. Teri will make the necessary changes
and forward the information to Melissa Gibson.
The four major areas are:
Plan - What do I need to do? What are the questions? What facts do I need to
find? What are the keywords to look for?
Research - What will I use to find what I need? Where is it? How do I use it
after I find it? How do I know this source is good?
Analyze - Which facts will answer the questions?
Communicate - How do I tell someone else about it? How do I tell other peopel
where I found the information?
3. Other
3.1 The discussion on the Parents area has been postponed
