Kentucky Commonwealth Virtual Library
Technology Subcommittee
March 26, 1999
Frankfort, Kentucky
ATTENDANCE: Perry Bratcher, Bob Glass, Angela Davig, Elsie Pritchard, Gary Flanagan, Paul Fuller, Nelda Sims, Roberta Kirby, Tari Keller, Weiling Liu, Miko Pattie
The meeting began at 1:00 with some general discussion regarding future issues. Next we moved into the agenda as follows:
IP ADDRESSES/WEBZ - Please send your campus IP addresses (for WebZ security) to Tari ASAP (campus or base address) There was discussion regarding WebZ security and setup. All are invited to a meeting at 10:00 4/2 (CPE -general meeting room - whatever that big room is called) to meet with Anita Reeb and Erika Yaeger regarding WebZ setup. Also send Tari and names regarding those at your institution interested in designing the web product for user friendliness. Preferably a public services person (there are enough "techies" on the design group). Bob Glass volunteered his services (Thanks Bob!) There was discussion regarding WebZ vs Web Voyage usage and how they will relate to one another. General confusion ensued. Hopefully some resolution will take place after we are more fully trained on both products.
SERVER NAMES: The following names were agreed upon for the east/west hub servers: eastlib.kcvu.edu and westlib.kcvu.edu
ENDEAVOR TRAINING: Please forward up to three names for the 4/16 project planning meeting (KDLA Activity room 9-4) to Miko ASAP. There was much discussion regarding how many people to send to the meeting (contract specifies up to two) but the group strongly felt that three per institution were necessary. If there are issues you would like to see covered please forward them to Tari ASAP, she will gather and collate the responses for discussion at either the project planning meeting or the next technology subcommittee meeting, whichever is appropriate.
Phase one libraries (KCTCS, KSU, WKU, Eastern, Morehead) are already scheduling orientation training. It was suggested that this training include a balance of those knowledgeable in the circulation and cataloging operations and system administration.
There is also a section on Installation and Technical training. This training is for 3-5 people per server location (a server being each library). This training will take place at the hub sites after hub site installation (east hub site installation has not taken place). Phase two libraries will receive this training at a later date (closer to their implementation). Actual training is probably only 2-3 days (vs. 5 days listed, which includes actual installation). The hub site agreement is still being worked on.
OTHER MISC. ISSUES:
Virutal reference and Document delivery.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:15. NEXT MEETING TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED FOR 5/14 - DETAILS TO FOLLOW LATER.
