Collections Subcommittee Minutes

1. NCLIVE Information:

Miko distributed a set of questions and the invitation NCLIVE sent to vendors for their vendor presentations. Noting Bill Potter's positive comments about NCLIVE's database selection process, the group discussed the possibility of bringing 2 or 3 people from NCLIVE to KY to talk to us about their process and their negotiations with vendors. Miko will work on this.

2. Timeline:

Miko distributed a draft timeline for Collections. Each task has an assigned time period and responsible groups associated with it. The group discussed this schedule at length as to omissions, clarifications, and feasibility. Miko will revise it so that we could use it as a roadmap for the time being until the Steering Committee meets. The tentative implementation date was set for Jan. 1999 (pending on funding).

3. Collections Group Membership:

The group saw the need to add a representative each from the public libraries and school libraries in finalizing the list of core databases. Miko will check with DLAC Work Group on how we could add these 2 new members asap.

4. Collections Listserv and Website:

To facilitate communication among all members of this group, Miko will work on establishing a listserv and a site under CVL for Collections.

5. Preliminary Evaluations of Databases:

To bring new members up to date on the databases we have on the list and others that have been suggested, the group will obtain trial passwords to these databases in order to decide whether they'll make the list or not.

6. Next Meeting Date:

The entire Collections Group including new members should meet as soon as possible. June 1 (Monday) and June 2 (Tuesday) have been identified as possible dates. (Collections Group members: Please email me on the dates before next Tuesday, May 26, so I could reserve a room for us.)
