Miko Pattie: Answers from her meeting with Endeavor.
We have 43 days worth of training left; this can include credit for certification training. The following training classes were determined to be "ASAP" status:

  1. Setting up pre-bulk and bulk loads
  2. E-Reserves access control.
  3. Setting up EDI.
  4. Setting up web voyage links
  5. Advanced Reporter/SQL training
  6. Web Voyage 2000 customization.
Institutions need to decide which modules they want training in, number of staff attending, and number of days needed. Miko will email everyone with a follow up request for this information.
To answer other questions Linda must know the level of access to the server for all of the various institutional users. Tari Keller brought up the security issue of too much access for the institutional users. The questions that need answering are who gets access to eastlib and westlib from the various institutions and at what level is their access for bulk loads, Unix access, etc.. Miko will contact Dave Block, Craig Brunson or other eastlib or westlib system administrators and they will be able to tell who has access to which facilities, directories, etc.
Tari Keller introduced Craig Brunson from UK's computing center. Craig will be assisting Dave Block as the eastlib systems administrator.

ECWG decided that the Voyager 2000 upgrade will begin on Monday, December 18th, 2000. If the Solaris release is uncertain or if the AIX is not at the gold level than implementation will be delayed -- we don't want to be beta testing. We decide that January 2nd, 2001 will be the fall back date for implementation if we don't upgrade on Dec. 18th.

Member institutions need to decide the number of people desiring Voyager certification training, in Chicago, at the $300 and $500 level. Miko will email a reminder asking for the number of people we all want to send, and then she will figure out the number of days left in the training budget.

Elsie Pritchard reported on contact with Alan Manifold for potential Microsoft Access class in the Fall. Mr. Manifold will charge $1250.00 for the class(es) per day plus travel, food and lodging and a $60 a day incidental fees. Classes will run from 9:00 AM to 4 PM with 1 hr lunch and other breaks; limit to 20 people per class. Straw pole from those present indicated at least 8 people interested in taking the class. Suggested that this class be taken after the Endeavor SQL training has been taken -- some SQL and Access Report writing experience is suggested. Potential dates would be November 9 & 10 or December 4 & 5. Both U of L or UK have adequate computer labs for the class. Tari Keller would check availability for UK labs on those days and Weiling Liu would check U of L.

ECWG will meet with Endeavor for our quarterly corporate meeting at 3:00 PM, October 26th, in Ekstrom Library on the University of Louisville campus immediately following the business meeting of the Fall KVUG gathering. This meeting will include Linda and Jane, from Endeavor. Miko also wants to invite the library directors to the meeting, and will email them an invitation -- we might informally do the same.

Roberta Kirby reported on the progress of the Kentucky Voyager Users Group. The Fall meeting will be held in Ekstrom Library on the University of Louisville campus on October 26th and 27th. The Web pages will be up the 1st week of September with registration information forms and information on the Fall meeting, and the KVUG-L listserv should be operational soon. If anyone has questions please contact Roberta Kirby.

The ECWG agree that we will NOT create a new listserv for the group but will use the KYVL-endeavor listserv to communicate about our group and events.

Miko reminded everyone that the KYVL will soon be moving into Suite 210 of the same building so remember to change our addresses when corresponding, and a new FAX number will be installed -- please look for it on the KYVL web site.http://www.kyvl.org/ PLEASE NOTE: that not only has the web site changed to www.kyvl.org but all of the listservs have changed from kcvl to kyvl prefix.

The charge written by Miko for the Endeavor Consortium Working Group was discussed and with a few changes the following charge was officially accepted by the group: CHARGE: To advise the Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL) in the support of the multi-hub Endeavor Voyager management systems to ensure effective access for library staff and users.

The ECWG agreed to keep Tari Keller as their chairperson.

We will begin organizing for benchmark testing, and are aiming to begin testing in September. This will allow for a comparison when the heaviest usage begins in October and November. Tari provided a list of "Initial Ideas for Benchmark Testing". If you have ideas or suggestions for what should be measured in a benchmark pass them to Gary Flanagan or Tari Keller.

Gary Flanagan and Tari Keller gave presentations on E-Reserves.

Next meeting will be September 14th at 1:00 p.m. Agenda item: discuss possibility of future meetings via some electronic format to cut down on travel.

Respectfully submitted by Kelly Vickery, 8/22/00.
