BASIC EBSCOadmin TRAINING

EBSCOadmin provides the library administrator with a wide range of tailoring options for EBSCOhost. During this session, administrators and technical coordinators will have hands

on training on this Web-based application, which allows the administrator to: set up local collections, customize search screens, and produce statistical reports.

What is EBSCOadmin? - EBSCOadmin is the first online administrative application for libraries accessing publication services via the World Wide Web. This program provides library administrators a format to customize their EBSCOhost interface. EBSCOhost users can customize and maintain their library interface by creating local collections of publications subscribed to with specific messages indicating what is and is not held by the library. In addition, library administrators can choose to limit the offering to only those publications held locally or indicate an option to either limit or browse the entire database for results. Database offerings can be activated or deactivated, depending on the preference for the profile indicated.

The following outlines some of EBSCOadmin’s versatile functions for a library administrator:

  1. How to Access EBSCOadmin:
  2. The URL for EBSCOadmin is: http://eadmin.epnet.com/eadmin/login.asp

Customer ID: enter your customer ID here

    Password: enter your password here

The password automatically defaults to the word password until the library administrator

goes in to change it. Please note that the Customer ID and Password are case sensitive. Customer ID and Password information is distributed with customer welcome/set up package.

EBSCOadmin users now have significantly more control over maintaining

their local collections and access options with the addition of the Upload feature. Using the Upload feature, users have the option of creating files containing all local holdings information in either text or US MARC format

and uploading these files to EBSCOadmin rather than creating the collection within the program. In addition, Patron ID and Password information, as well

as IP address lists, can all be uploaded using this feature.

Please contact EBSCO Publishing’s Technical Support at 1-800-758-5995

or via email [email protected] with any questions, concerns or suggestions regarding this feature.

We have now completed the section on entering Title Information. Now, we

will customize Search Screens and Link/Activate Local Holding Collections.

III Library Profiles

Interfaces are associated with profiles; therefore, in order to see the Searchasaurus or Remote User Interface that you have created, you will need to create profiles for these groups to reflect these interfaces. Explain that other types of profiles can be created as well.

    1. Select the Profile you want to modify

    6. Select Default Screen: EBSCOhost is set up to default to "keyword searching" unless you manually change this

Select "EBSCO Default" if you would like EBSCO’s predefined limiters that are specific to each database. NOTE: If you subscribe to third-party databases (e.g. Books In Print), then you may want to select "EBSCO Default", which will activate database-specific limiters when only ONE database is selected. For example, this will turn on "Keyword search title" as a limiter in Books In Print. Also note that when searching MORE THAN ONE database to search (i.e. MasterFILE Premier and Books In Print) EBSCOhost will default to "global" limiters (limiters predefined to customize a multiple database search).
